A programme of free CPD events to assist in carrying out your town & country planning responsibilities under climate change mitigation and adaptation. Events will be delivered for Local Authority Elected Members in:
This programme is funded by the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Change Skills, managed by Local Government Yorkshire & Humber (LGYH).
The town & country planning system has just been significantly reformed. Part 6 of the Localism Act 2011 introduced new structural changes to the planning system and the newly published National Planning Policy Framework has replaced and consolidated previous national planning guidance into some 50-off pages.Recent announcements in September for further planning deregulation and simplification include proposals to change the definition of infrastructure to include housing, end-to-end review of building standards to include the Code for Sustainable Homes and the definition of zero carbon.
These changes pose great policy and institutional challenges and opportunities for you as the key decision-making authority for your locality and communities, current and future. These series of events will help you clarify a pathway forward in effective and proactive planning for climate change as appropriate for your council amd to your local area.
Events will focus on:
Who are the events aimed at?
Registrations are only open to local authorities in the Yorkshire & Humber region.
Who will be delivering the events?
TCPA Chief Planner, Dr Hugh Ellis, will lead on the delivery of the events with the technical support of Martin Elliot of Elliot Planning, Rob Shaw of LDA Design, and contribution from the Environment Agency.
These events are not only timely but also easily assimilated, positive and innovative and intended to create real learning opportunities based on the reality and challenge of the Yorkshire and Humber region.
