Bk-'Tomorrow's New Communities' (1997)

With increasing pressure to expand housing output, there is a danger that the mistakes of the past will be repeated: a lack of human scale; excessive density, unchecked sprawl; or inadequate local services. Against this background, the TCPA and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation organised the Tomorrow's New Communities competition, which was designed to stimulate fresh thinking about new forms of development. This publication looks forward and backward. It examines the lessons to be learned from the creation of new communities, both large and small and both at home and abroad.
